Habitats and survival

In Science today, we are describing how different habitats provide for the needs of different animals and plants.


Let's get thinking with a big question.
Can you think of one positive and one negative of living under water?
You might want to think about what animals already live under water, and what attributes or features they have that are different from land animals.



A habitat is the natural home of animals and plants. Habitats are important places for the needs of these animals and plants as they provide food, water, shelter and a place to bring up their young.


What is a humans habitat?
What special features does a human have to help them survive?
Thinking about what humans need to survive, can you explain why Miss Ali would not survive in these habitats?

English - All about Plants

Today in English we're starting to write the first two pages of our non-fiction books on plants. 
What information do we need to include in our non-fiction books?
We decide to write a page on sunflowers and a page on peas today as this is what we've been growing in our edible playground. 
We carried out some further research on each plant so that we could include lots of fascinating facts and accurate information in our writing.

Art - Andy Goldworthy inspired art work

In art today we've been learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy.
He is a sculptor and photographer who is inspired by nature and land. He produces site-specific pieces often using leaves or rocks such as these art works;

At school the Year 1 and 2 bubble have been collecting leaves, sticks and stones to make their own artworks in the playground.
Perhaps you could make a leaf circle in your local park next time you visit.

English - What tress does Fox see?

On his adventure to find the golden wonderflower Fox sees lots of different trees. 
Today we're going to write lists of all the trees he sees using commas.
Do you know how to use commas?

Have a go at listing all the different trees that Fox might see on his adventure;

Science- Life Cycle of a Runner Bean

What do you know about the lifecycle of a plant?
Today at achool we're planting runner beans so that we can watch how they germinate and grow. 
Here's an information sheet that explains more about the different stages in the life cycle of a runner bean.


Once our beans have germinated and grown into seedlings we're going to plant them in our edible playground where they can grow until the beans are ready to harvest. 
Have a go at answering these questions on the bean life cycle at home.

English - The Golden Wonderflower

We're starting our new book today which is about a Fox who loves plants, who goes on a quest to find the very rare golden wonderflower.
