Perfectly Norman

Today's story is Perfectly Norman. 

In this story, Norman discovers that the coat was making him miserable and not the wings. Hiding your differences can make us feel more miserable than showing them.

Our differences are an important part of who our identity. 

What does being brave mean to you?

Once you are done, write a letter to your sad feelings telling them how you feel about them and why.

Bernard's parents ignored him in the story. 

How does it feel when people are ignoring us? How should we behave when people are trying to speak to us? How can we attract people's attention in a polite, positive way?

Your job today is to think of words to describe how Bernard tasted when the monster ate him!

• Write a story that explains where the monster came from. How did he end up in Bernard's garden?
• Write a story that explains what happens next. How do Bernard's family react when they realise what has happened?

A mouse called Julian

Today our story is called A mouse called Julian. 

The author,  Joe Todd, is reading the story to us today.

It's a very silly story that makes me laugh a lot. What is your favourite part of the story?

Imagine that you are a famous news reporter and a spaceship has landed by your house. 🚀👽You need to interview the alien that comes out of the ship. What will you say to it?

Literacy - Board games

Hi Year 1. How are you doing? What have you been up to lately? How are you finding learning at home?

Miss Ali has been spending a lot of time playing Ludo at home.  It is a board game that you can play with four players, and only requires a dice and counters.

Your challenge today is to try and make your own board game. Think about how many players the game can have, what things you will need to play it, how can you win the game? It might be helpful if you write a set of instructions telling people how to play.

Gruffalo - Mouse

Can you remember the story of The Gruffalo from yesterday?

The Mouse in the story went on quite an adventure. Before meeting the Gruffalo, he met and saw lots of different things.

Imagine that you are the mouse in the story (you might even want to make yourself a mouse headband to get into character!)

Write a letter to your mouse family about all the different things that you have seen on your way to the Gruffalo. You might want to include:

• Action words (verbs) to tell them what you have been doing.
• Describing words (adjectives) to help your mouse family imagine exactly what you have seen.
• Connectives such as 'and','but' and 'so' to add more detail to your writing.

You could make up your own silly story about dragons by changing 'tacos' to something else.
