Free Online Phonic Videos

At De Beauvoir, we learn phonics using Read Write Inc. There is a video about understanding phonics - have a look at why we teach phonics.

It is important that the children are saying pure sounds. Have a look at how to say the different phonemes (sounds) in the English language.

Watch Ruth and Rosie teach phonics lessons to help your child learn to read at home. Lessons are from Monday to Friday. Each one is ten minutes long and available for 24 hours.

Recommendations

9.30am - Set 2 - Reception/Year 1/Year 2
10.30am - Set 3 - Year 1/2/3

Use the links below to watch the videos.

Dragons love tacos

Knock Knock!
Who's there?
Taco.
Taco who?
I don't want to taco about it.

Hey Year 1, did you know that Dragons love tacos?

Miss Ali has started a list of items that Dragons love. Help make Miss Ali's list even better by describing the dragon and the food.

Can you make your own list?

You could make up your own silly story about dragons by changing 'tacos' to something else.

ACTIVITY: Make tacos at home - real or pretend!
1) Look up a recipe on how to make tacos.
2) Make your own taco (real or pretend).
3) Write your own recipe on how to make them.
Remember: a recipe needs clear instructions. You can use time words such as First, Next, Then to begin your sentences.

Adults: More activities for your child can be found here.

We cannot sound out these words. Instead we use letter names.
Have a go at saying the word 5 times out loud, and then writing it 5 times.
You can type it into the 'comments' section underneath if this is easier.

Other activities:
  • Can you find anything in your house with an 'ai' sound?
  • Can you make up your own alien word with the 'ai' sound?

Meditation

Time for meditation. 😊😌

Parents/carers,

In Year 1 we practice calming our bodies and minds before learning. We find a quiet space to lie down for 5 minutes while we listen to the music. It helps us to relax and bring back our focus. This is something the whole family can join in with!
